Dear Parent or Guardian,
I hope this note finds you enjoying your Friday. It has been sent home with your second grader to remind you of our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences Week starting next Monday. Here, I will outline our itinerary for each evening so that you may come prepared. Please read carefully.
Monday through Wednesday we will hold individual meetings with each student, the parent(s) or guardian(s), and the student’s teacher. Please refer to the final page to find your time slot.
During your child’s allotted twenty minutes we will discuss their scores, behavior, and potential for moving on to the next grade. Please note that these assessments serve the purpose of informing us how we can best compensate for the needs of each individual child and are not an invitation for criticism of the student or teacher. A guidance counselor will be on standby to offer mediation as necessary.
We understand that these meetings can be a source of stress for children and encourage parents to open up a dialogue with their children before the assessment. Please walk your child through the process and outline your expectations for their conduct during our discussion. Slang terms such as, “No Cap”, “The Big 26”, and “Clock It” should be discouraged as they are distracting for those generations that do not understand these phrases.
“Fidget toys” are permitted, though it should be noted that the following do not classify as “fidget toys”:
-Confetti guns
-Dental floss
-Tide Pods
Thursday at 6 PM we will gather in the gymnasium for a short presentation from our students. This year the students elected to hold a rap battle featuring classic remixed favorites such as Let It Go from Disney’s Frozen, and the epic hit, Baby Shark.
Following this short concert we will hear a word from our principal and go over some of the anonymous considerations submitted to the school’s Quibble Container. This year we have thoroughly reviewed each submission and will only be addressing the concerns pertaining strictly to the students and their education. Absolutely no physical or verbal violence will be tolerated at the assembly, so we must insist you refrain from any of the following topics during the Q&A portion:
– Politics
– Religion
– Gentle parenting
– Breastfeeding
– Animal rights
– Conspiracy theories
– Individual families
As was decided at last month’s PTA meeting, we will not be discussing the gambling ring that was briefly formed between the fourth and fifth grade classes. The group was disbanded and the appropriate parties notified. Please review the minutes from the meeting if you were unable to attend.
Friday at 6 PM we will once again gather briefly in the auditorium for a final word from our principal and a rundown of end-of-the-year preparations. We hope that afterward you and your children will join us for an ice-cream social on the playground. This is the time for you to get to know the other families that attend this prestigious school and we feel it is important to stress that this is not a mixer. No alcohol is allowed on school grounds at any time and any inappropriate conduct will result in you and your family being asked to leave.
Vegan-friendly options will be available.
I am looking forward to meeting with each of you and working together to provide your children with a meaningful education.
Have an excellent weekend!
Sincerely,
Ms. Grady
